Ms. An Maglipayon USA -  Tradition and Social Relevance

If Vienna, Austria has their Opera Ball, the An Taclobanon has the Ms. An Maglipayon Night.  This unique gathering that started in 1928 in Tacloban would soon be adopted in Southern California in the early part of 1990.  The then officers of the An Taclobanon Association of Southern California were in search of an activity around Christmas that could gather everyone and be in fellowship. Thus, the Miss An Maglipayon USA pageant was born.  Much like the tradition that it was adopting,  the Miss An Maglipayon USA pageant was meant be a fun gathering of Taclobanons. However, the An Taclobanon Association of Southern California also made it a fundraising  event in support of the projects of the Association.  It is not only an opportunity for the daughters of Taclobanons to showcase their talents but one that allows them to lend their support to worthy causes of the Association like the Medical Mission to Tacloban.

Since 1990, the Miss An Maglipayon USA has been a successful event due to the generous support of Taclobanons all these years.  Also critical to the success of the Miss An Maglipayon USA are the full support of the candidates, past and present. Along with their families, they fully engage their time, effort and talents to this endeavor. The participants and supporters of the Miss An Maglipayon are enablers of socio-civic consciousness, especially among the young members of the An Taclobanon community, making tradition dynamic and relevant to the times.

Let this tradition of beauty and generosity, as embodied in the Miss An Maglipayon spirit, thrive!
